Hey we put up a sweet vimeo page to highlight all the excellent/terrible videos we took leading up to and during Imagine RIT.  They show us working, us not working, and our installation mostly working!  I’m just kidding our installation worked great.  But they’re pretty fun and you should totally take a look.

We shall use subtle storytelling to create an engaging experience and as a method of maintaining consistency. Because of the non-linear nature of the installation where multiple users can come and go, the story itself must be similarly non-linear. Rather than create a narrative with definite beginning, middle, and end, we will instead create a portrait of the boy whose doodles you are interacting with. By repeating thematic elements and including cursory details we will be able to create a compelling character who the user will grow to know more and more about as they continue to interact with the installation.

Repetition and convention will be key in creating an easily recognizable story. The character and themes must be universal enough to be immediately understood but unique enough to not bore the pants off everyone. We will use the story to design elements which will be repeated such as the boy’s imaginary friend or signature as well as the puzzles/games which tell a specific story such as taking a test.
